Mission & Goals of the Steamboat Bicentennial Committee

By commemorating the first successful steamboat voyage on the Ohio River by the New Orleans in 1811, we will educate the public about the history of steamboats and their dramatic impact on the economic, social, cultural and environmental history of the United States.

Goals

• To promote a “celebration” of the steamboat New Orleans and its successful voyage on the Ohio River from Pittsburgh and eventually to New Orleans.

• To sponsor activities and events.

• To encourage other organizations to sponsor activities and events.

• To serve as a “clearinghouse” of information about related events and activities.
