A BioBlitz event is scheduled for June 19-20, 2009 in collaboration with Limberlost Nature Preserves, the Limberlost State Historic Site, Indiana Academy of Sciences, Ball State, and other institutions and agencies.
The BioBlitz will take place at Lobolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in NE Indiana (Adams County, near Geneva, IN). This BioBlitz will help commemorate the life and work of Gene Stratton Porter, author of classic novels set in the Limberlost wetlands of northeast Indiana in the late 1800s (Girl of the Limberlost, Freckles). Porter was an accomplished naturalist, author, photographer, and artist and acknowledged as one of the first women in the United States to publicly work for conservation.
The Loblolly Preserve, where the BioBlitz will take place, is part of a wetland restoration plan to return some of the Limberlost swamp to its original condition.
